Office Procedures

Initial Visit

Your first visit to our office will take about an hour. You will fill out some forms, particularly a health history questionnaire. Dr. Miñana will take a detailed history about your current condition and any prior injuries or health problems. Next we will do an orthopedic and chiropractic examination. Dr. Miñana will then discuss his findings with you and explain exactly what type of adjustments he recommends and how they will be done. You will then receive your first chiropractic adjustment. The treatment may include physiotherapy (see below) if needed. We will discuss postural and ergonomic issues that effect your condition. We may start your exercise program on the first visit or may wait for subsequent visits depending on your problem.

Ongoing Visits

Subsequent visits to our office will last 10 to 20 minutes. You will have a chance to discuss your progress with the doctor and you will receive your adjustment. We will also train you in performing the rehabilitative exercises that will speed your recovery and prevent future problems.

Techniques and Other Methods Used

1.   Activator. Dr. Miñana is advanced proficiency certified in Activator Technique, a gentle and effective light force instrument. Most adjustments are performed with the Activator.

2.   Diversified. This is the classic manual chiropractic technique that is used for some conditions.

3.   Trigger Point Therapy (deep tissue therapy). Deep pressure to relax tight muscles and break up knots or trigger points in the muscles.

4.   Electric Stimulation. A TENS (Transcutaneous Electronic Nerve Stimulator) is used to block pain and to "reset" dysfunctional muscles. This device produces a very minimal current concentrated at a point and when used on acupuncture points would be called Meridian Therapy.

Exercise

Dr. Miñana believes that exercise is essential for a healthy, stable spine and for general health. He will show you the exercises he wants you to do and you can practice them in the office. You can also discuss with him other exercise you are doing or would like to. You and the doctor will work together you get you in shape!

Financial Policies

We accept cash, checks or major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover).

Payment is expected at the time of service except for the exceptions below.

We accept insurance only on the following types of cases:

1.  Workers’ Compensation (on-the-job injuries). You must report the injury to your employer and either your employer or the insurance must approve treatment in our office. We will handle all reports and billing.

2.  Auto accidents with MedPay. If you are injured in an auto accident and there is coverage under the "medical payments" portion of the policy our office will bill the insurance company. Keep in mind that you have coverage if you are a passenger in a vehicle that has coverage.

3.  Medicare. We accept assignment on Medicare insurance and will also bill any supplemental insurance. If you have signed on with an HMO you are not covered for chiropractic treatment in our office. You may have chiropractic coverage with a doctor on a so-called "managed care" list. Should you decide to have chiropractic treatment in our office anyway we will extend to you a senior discount based on rates set by Medicare even though you must pay for the treatment yourself.

4.  Blue Shield. Our office is a Blue Shield Preferred Provider. We will bill Blue Shield for your treatment and you will be obligated for the portion that Blue Shield does not pay.

Managed Care

Is Dr. Miñana on my insurance company's list? The short is answer is no and here's why.

We are not enrolled in any managed care plans. Dr. Miñana provides what he likes to call "personal care." This means that he will spend time with you to get to know you and to provide a quality health service. Under managed care this is difficult to do because a managed care doctor must see more people at a lower rate of reimbursement. Even more importantly, at Miñana Chiropractic Center decisions regarding your care are made by you and the doctor in collaboration, without any "middle men" looking over our shoulder. You deserve the care you really need not what someone in an insurance company decides you should get. That is why we no longer participate in managed care plans.
